Oct 19, 2018 Capcom’s Black Tiger is one of the many dark fantasy barbarian-themed arcade games of the mid/late 80s, undoubtedly inspired by the Conan the Barbarian movie and the many fantasy movies that were in vogue at the time. You control the eponymous Black Tiger, a muscular warrior of tremendous strength, as he treks through eight levels and defeats. Tears of the Black Tiger is an amazing and ground breaking film. Fans of low-budget films that push the limitations of their situations to create unique works of entertainment/art deserved to be seen by a wider audience! I am excited because this film, along with Nang Nak, introduced me to Thai Cinema. And now I want to see more!
Black Tiger o anche Black Dragon è un classico videogioco coin-op arcade prodotto e distribuito nel 1987 dalla Capcom. La software house giapponese volle seguire la scia segnata da giochi di enorme successo come Ghosts'n Goblins e Ghouls'n Ghosts. Il gioco era del genere a piattaforme in cui un protagonista forzuto inizialmente quasi nudo e armato soltanto di mazzafrusto doveva districarsi tra dungeon e labirinti eliminando i numerosi nemici presenti ad ogni livello. Il giocatore aveva una grande libertà di gioco in quanto in ogni stage erano nascosti vari passaggi segreti che portavano a cunicoli bonus o stanze nascoste con power-up e vite in abbondanza. I boss di fine livello erano draghi enormi, figure ricorrenti nella tradizione giapponese.
Durante il gioco era possibile accumulare delle monete chiamate Zenny e ciò era possibile aprendo dei bauli o uccidendo nemici come mummie, serpenti, uomini sputa fuoco, orchi e pipistrelli. Con tali soldi era possibile acquistare potenti corazze, vite, armi potenziate. Visto il grande successo dovuto ad una grafica fluida e pulita ed ad una giocabilità ai massimi livelli, Black Tiger fu convertito per varie console e personal computer dell'epoca come Amiga500, Commodore64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Atari ST e persino Play Station e XBox.
